John McCain’s sudden 360 180 (sorry, rushed) on the Law of the Sea Convention has come up before here. Despite ten years of energetic support for U.S. accession to the Convention, things changed last October without any explanation. McCain attempted to justify this on principle, though it fell transparently flat.

Really interesting debate. I had a lot of thoughts, which I’ve got logged below. But Joe Biden showed what a steady, thoughtful, capable pro he is. And while Palin didn’t have any of the disasters she has had in her recent interviews, she came off as an impressive amateur.

Washington University has had a tremendous run of luck landing political debates. It played host in ’92, ’00, ’04, and is welcoming Governor Palin and Senator Biden here tonight. It’d be great if some sleuthing undergrad managed to figure out how.
