Liberal writer, blogger, activist Brian Beutler was shot this morning in my neighborhood near 17th and Euclid Streets NW in Washington, DC. He was shot three times in a botched robbery attempt.
More important than Beutler being a great friend of mine, he is a guy who has been working the hell out of stories on FISA, torture policy, detainee abuse and numerous other tough news arenas of major significance to the progressive community. Brian previously worked as a star research assistant at the New America Foundation and worked closely with me.
Google him — as I have here. Skip the shooting stuff. He’s going to live — though he is in a lot of pain and is going to have a long recovery. Some of his friends are now calling him “30 cent“. But go back to what he has written. He’s part of the progressive conscience in Washington and deserves a salute from readers of this blog.
He’s going to need some financial assistance — and if any of you want to help him out — feel free to send checks (preferably in his name — BRIAN BEUTLER) to me at:

You can also donate via the PayPal link on this blog — but be sure to either note on your contribution or send me an email that it is “for Brian.”
Best wishes to Brian for a speedy recovery — and much love to him from everyone at the New America Foundation and The Washington Note.
