Danger in Tehran: Tunnel Traffic

My friend Meir Javedanfar alerted me to this shocking video clip of traffic in “Tohid Tunnel” in Tehran.
According to the commentary depicting accident after accident, 70,000 cars pass through the tunnel daily. More than 400 cars violate traffic laws in the tunnel each day. (seems like a low number to me)
Meir reports that the speed limit in the tunnel is 60 kilometers an hour — or about 38 miles/hour.

It just pushes the usual Orientalist narrative: “The Iranians need the White Man to save them.”
Yeah, right. What does the white man do? Well, just look at what we did to Iraq. Case closed.

I’ve always wondered, I see this all the time in places as far away as China to India and Mexico. Do people in developing countries just not care about traffic laws or safety at all? What is the deal?

Doesn’t seem that out of the ordinary for third-world traffic.

Pulling Iran out of thin air. Next time your on Rachel Maddows can you just mention that many of us have noticed she repeats unsubstantiated claims about Iran way too often.
