Here is another choice, ARNOLD KANTER.
He has all the right credentials and has done lots of “heavy-lifting” and “tough negotiating” in his former government roles — and I haven’t yet tripped over someone (like we seem to do everyday with John Bolton) who has accused him of professionally abusive behavior.
Despite my having learned recently that General Scowcroft, Kanter’s current boss, had lunch with Senator Lincoln Chafee at the power-lunch spot, the Alibi Club at 1806 Eye Street, NW (none of us can get in — don’t worry), TWN has learned that the White House and Scowcroft are working hard to re-create their previously quite close and good relationship.
One way for Condoleeza Rice and the White House to bring Scowcroft back into the fold is to quickly remove Bolton from the U.N. portfolio, give him a decent position in Vice President Cheney’s office and nominate Arnold Kanter for the U.N. Ambassadorship.
And if not Kanter, then try:
Robert Kimmitt
Richard Haass
Lamar Alexander
Amo Houghton
Carla Hills
Rita Hauser
Heather Wilson
Doug Bereuter
Alan Simpson
All Republicans. . .and all Impressive.
