Lantos to Retire

I just got a note in my inbox with a full press release from House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Lantos. Chairman Lantos is apparently battling cancer of the esophagus and will retire at the end of his term. For his years of service, his dedication to human rights and his thoughtful approach to foreign policy, Chairman Lantos deserves our gratitude and best wishes.

All I can say, having worked with the man for 13 years in the 80’s and early 90’s, is: Jeezo-Flip. Who can be surprised or angry at any pro-Israel stances taken by members of that committee? Where have you been? Why is this a threat that invites such venom? We have a balanced government and the House Foreign Affairs Committee is far from the locus of power. This is why policies, even ones that seem out-of-date, take so long to change, and why the US is viewed as so predictable and safe – even in the “W” era. (Want to buy some Pakistani government bonds today?) As soon as Mideast policy vis-a-vis Israel becomes less a third rail (like Social Security once was) of political life, we might see a more “balanced” approach. But to heap such blame on Lantos is silly. Howard Berman is decidedly pro-Israel, but is one of the smartest Reps. around, and he does his homework. He’ll be a good chairman.

Lantos to retire? His constituents in Tel Aviv must be saddened by the news.

A well respected Jewish write Jackie Rose described the zionist as people drawn to self delusion and self induced psychosis. You should read it, you would know your self better.
To say that Lantos is an human rights advocate because of his stand on Dufur does nothing but reveal what an utter immoral hypocrit he is.
He and his fellow zionist in congress have been the major force in keeping the Israeli genocide of Palestine going….and making America hated and reviled around the world for supporting it.
The papers are full every day of children and adults in Palestine who aren’t allowed to get thru zionist roadblocks to hospitals and dying because Israel blocks drugs from being delivered to Palestine..one just died yesterday of cancer.
May Lantos and all his kind rot in hell.
And if I had a magic wand that zionist nazi state and all it’s supporters would disappear in the blink of an eye.

Thank you for the link http://tinyurl.com/2ctfap, Lurker. It was a fascinating and somber read.
On the other hand, Mike Lieberman’s post in defense of “lion” Lantos, reeked of the very “vituperative ignorance” he so unashamedly accused others of.
    Get a load of this:
“Rather than excoriate the real culprits you choose someone who has sought to rein them in. That’s your choice, but it is really only your vituperative ignorance we should be wishing good riddance. As for Mr. Lantos, he is a lion that deserves our warmest thanks and highest respect. I salute his service in the cause of justice and wish him a long life and good health.” Posted by Mike Lieberman
My goodness, Mr. Lieberman! Are you married to his daughter? …Paid by the word? …In thrall to Power?
Tell me, do you have any follow-up thoughts you’d like to share relating to the information contained in the article Lurker recommended we read?
Does any of Lantos’ treacherous perfidy, (in opposition to the interests of the country that took him in – the country that freed him to prosper, the country that protected him, and ultimately, the country that supported him financially for decade after decade,) bother you in any way, Mr. Lieberman?
Aren’t ALL Americans now threatened by the clumsy, stumbling, Gargantuan Apparatus of their ever-expanding,increasingly-draconian-tho-ironically-terrified-paranoid-and-isolated, eerily adolescent-minded leadership in a large part due to the Machiavellian ploys and black stratagems adopted by the cruel and nasty, hob-nobbling, self-centred fraudsters like Lantos and his co-conspirators, who work like the Borg in support of a foreign state?
I’d be fascinated to hear what you have to say about all that, Mr. Lieberman.
I also earnestly hope Mr. Lantos suffers agonizingly through his last breaths on this earth for the countless horrors he has been responsible for through the years he hid his true face behind a self-congratulatory veil of !Justice! (What a crock.)
Tragically, his minor physical suffering at this, the end of his life, will be the only true justice he’ll ever face for his crimes.
I say “minor physical suffering” because the generous “socialized” medical plan he’s entitled to as a member of the governing class will keep him safely isolated from his disease’s most venal effects. Pity we can’t claim the same for the countless other American citizens he’s sold down the river throughout his long and shameful career in service to the idea of Israel.
There will be no pain aversion therapies for them while they die, will there?
Unless, of course, they pay cash for it. …Or better yet… put it on their credit card(s).

Lurker is correct on this one. Lantos is an Israeli agent in the US congress (though, he is obviously not the only one). His whole geostrategic viewpoint is based on Israel first. That is why he is so hawkish on the Arab and Muslim world.
And unfortunately, as Steve points out, it doesn’t look like the Foreign Relations committee will be any more honest with the loss of Lantos. The highest ranking Dems (and Repubs too) are all violent Israel advocates. It is too bad for the USA and the world.
The only thing, I am disappointed that the constituency that Lantos represents didn’t wise up enough to vote him out of office, rather than his simply retiring. Though, I am sorry he has cancer as well.

    Sorry pal,
I know a lot about Lantos and about the situation in Sudan. Lantos does nothing without thinking of Israel first.
If you actually knew anything about Lantos you would see how instrumental he was in getting us to invade Iraq Parts 1 and 2.
You would also see his complicity in Israel’s destruction of Lebanon in the summer of 2006, USING OUR TAX DOLLARS.
Again, I would refer you to the detailed examination of Lantos’ past actions that John Taylor compiled at antiwar.com:
    http://tinyurl.com/2ctfap
Lantos wasn’t even a double agent — he worked only for Israel. He should be kicked out of this country as a traitor, and denied the free medical care that so many wounded U.S. troops are also being denied, even though they fought Israel’s war against Iraq.
Ever heard of the Aqaba pipeline? The one that goes from northern Iraq through Syria to Haifa, Israel, that was shut-down in 1948 — but Israel wants it back at the cost of American lives. Reinstating Aqaba would make Haifa the largest oil port in the Middle East and cut Israel’s dependence on “foreign” oil. At a huge cost to American lives and our economy, but do the Israel firsters like Lantos care?
    NO.
Israel National News (Arutz Sheva) kind of said it all when it crowed early in 2003 that the war in Iraq was for Israel.
Lantos — get the F out of here before we run you out. Same for anyone who supports another country’s interests above that of the U.S.’
Aliyah awaits, Tommy Boy. Just do it.

“Berman is a major contributor to the false choice many in Congress make between Israel’s security and survival and the Arab Middle East. He does not articulate a vision for the Middle East that is both pro-Arab and pro-Israel, and I think that that has to become part of his portfolio if he ascends to Lantos’s position.”
He also seems to be in the tank for the entertainment biz, just like the Repubs and their coziness with oil, insurance, pharma, etc.

–“Even Lantos’ ostensibly “altruistic” campaign to “Save” Darfur is an UsRael ploy to get to the sea of oil the Sudan sits on.”–
What sorry foolishness. His support for intervention in Darfur actually has everything to do with the fact that Lantos himself is a genocide survivor and a longtime human rights advocate. It has nothing at all to do with southern Darfur’s oil, which China already has a stake in. That’s the real interest propping up the genocidaires in Sudan, and explains why so little has been done to stem the slaughter. Rather than excoriate the real culprits you choose someone who has sought to rein them in.
That’s your choice, but it is really only your vituperative ignorance we should be wishing good riddance.

A few weeks ago man named John Taylor wrote a great commentary detailing Lantos’ work for Israel at antiwar.com Here it is:
    http://tinyurl.com/2ctfap
I rarely wish ill on anyone, no matter how much of a creep they are, so for Lantos, this is my wish: Sir, go spend your last days in the country you have worked for since its inception, Israel.
Leave the U.S. alone. And good riddance.
