Cool Ad

For a few days I am in Tokyo, the home of the world’s coolest ads.
But this one for McDonald’s, which is airing in France, ranks really well.

That is the rub, isn’t it? I couldn’t face a McD meal here, but I can report that I had a filet-o-fish in Canada a number of years back that was excellent, not at all like the American filet-o-fish.
Looks like I will get to travel to Switzerland and France Sud next year to spend time with a Swiss friend of 4 decades. Will definitely eat at a French McD (will sample their filet-o-fish) and will raise a toast-bite to you.

Well, David, having now returned from lunch (Big Mac, medium fries, medium diet coke), I think I can report with complete confidence that McDonalds television commercials in France are better than their food in the United States.

    Way, way cool ad.
Can’t do Big Macs anymore. Lost the taste for them. But make at least one bite be for me, Wig.

10 or 20 years from now, I’m sure this be a natural part of
American mainstream culture as well. In Norway, we are almost
there – and believe me: puritanism and moralism is as deeply
rooted in Norwegian culture as in America.
I am more worried about anti-gay sentiments in cultures that are
still largely determined by rural communities and old traditions –
not only Muslim countries, but also a lot of places in Africa where
hostile sentiments and irrational fear is enhanced by Pentecostal
influences made in USA. Uganda is a recent and well known
example; but there are many worrying signs in neighboring
countries as well. You should have sent someone like Gore Vidal
on a tour to Africa, for the sake of balance.

I don’t like McDonald’s, or what they stand for … but this surely
says something positive about mainstream French culture.

    What a great ad!
Americans should be embarassed that McDonalds would never run it in our country.
But good for McDonalds. I’m going to go out and have a Big Mac for lunch tomorrow.
    Thanks for sharing it.
